Blue Daze...

Over the weekend and after a few frantic messages to Rita I finally managed to put together Alfie's quilt.

Alfie's Blue Daze quilt is a result of the Around The Block quilting bee - what a FANTASTIC job the girls have done.

(I must apologise for the photo, it was quite tricky to get a good shot...especially with the wind blowing and my lack of knowledge of the white balance knob on my camera.)

I am so happy with how this quilt has turned out, it is bright, fresh and will suit him as a young boy but it will also grow with him.

There are still some blocks leftover which I am going to use as part of a pieced feature on the back of the quilt.

The thing about this quilt that I really love is that although no two blocks are the same, they all work so well togther.

Each time I look at the quilt..

I find small, teenie,

little details that I didn't notice before.

Thanks ladies, this is a quilt that is going to be treasured in our house.

This is spectacular! A perfect quilt for a boy. It makes me want to do a block quilting bee, well I have been wanting to do one....but now I REALLY want to. All the blocks really do compliment each other well, and the creativity of each block is just amazing.

How exciting to look at that photo and see the two blocks I put together not looking out of place in with the wonderful efforts of everyone who took part :)

Even more exciting was winning the scraps from this quilt!!

Kate this quilt is gorgeous. I love the blue, orange and grey colourway, the colours jumping out from their white frames. The details are fabulous, the goldfish are gorgeous, the man floating on his back funny!! xo

Oh wow you clever girl! It's fabulous! I have been thinking about you, because I have started working on my first quilt again. I have just started a patchwork class which is giving me a bit of motivation to get it finished! I am a bit nervous about the quilting side of it. The stacked coin quilt on Crazy Mom Quilts blog (I think you told me about it) has a strip of patchwork on the back too, I am just not sure how that works when doing the quilting. Anyway, wondering if I should just do a plain back for my first one, what do you think?

Oh I love this Kate! It is so cool and will be such a great talking point for Alfie - I bet he'll just love pointing out all the different little details too and telling you all about them! I had a pillow case growing up which I loved! It had so much detail and after many years of touching the same spots (my favourites) it started to wear in those patches!
Do you know if the block swap is open to one little quilting Kiwi in NZ?
PS - I figured that you can peg quilts of windy days inside on your curtain rod to take great pictures - makes them look a little like stained glass! :)
